Future Arrival Buying Guide
Curious About Future Arrival / Pre-Arrival Wines?
At Tribeca Wine Merchants, we source many of the world’s most sought-after wines directly from Europe through long-standing relationships with estates, négociants, and bonded merchants. These decades-long partnerships allow us to access pristine inventories of wines with effectively perfect provenance.
Through our Future Arrival program, clients can secure these wines while they are still professionally stored in bonded European cellars, awaiting temperature-controlled shipment stateside.
Estate-Sealed Provenance
Provenance is foundational to every Future Arrival / Pre-Arrival wine we offer.
Our European acquisitions are sourced directly from estates, négociants, and long-standing bonded partners. The wines are shipped directly from the winery, to secure professional bonded storage, where it remains until purchase and transit to our warehouse in the United States. From the moment the wines leave the winery, they remain under institutional custody, without passing through private cellars or auction channels, and preserving the provenance, integrity, and original condition.
All wines are held in bonded European warehouses purpose-built for fine wine, where temperature, humidity, and light exposure are maintained at strict cellar standards. These facilities preserve both physical condition and documented chain of custody while the wines await export.
Just as importantly, the wines remain in their original packaging from the winery, sealed and untouched until photographs are taken to confirm condition. Original wooden cases and estate cartons are kept intact, ensuring authenticity, condition integrity, and collector confidence.
From winery cellar to bonded European storage to temperature-controlled transit to New York intake, handling is minimal and continuity is preserved. The result is provenance at the highest standard. Professionally cellared, and uncompromised from origin to arrival.
Delivery Guarantee
We guarantee that the Future Arrival wine you purchase will be delivered as confirmed. Period.
In the exceptionally rare event that a wine cannot be fulfilled, whether due to transit breakage, or other unforeseen logistics issues, we will provide a full refund along with an additional 3.5% credit of the purchase price toward a future order.
Our goal is simple: that clients feel complete confidence in every Future Arrival purchase, from initial commitment through final delivery.
Delivery Timing & Shipping Process
Future Arrival wines are offered with estimated delivery windows, though clients should be comfortable with the possibility of delays, which are a normal part of international ocean freight logistics.
Wines are first consolidated in Europe before export is scheduled. Because fine wine moves internationally via container freight rather than parcel carriers, shipments must be grouped and prepared alongside other inventories moving on the same temperature-controlled schedule.
Once consolidation is complete, wines are loaded into refrigerated ocean freight containers, the global standard for transporting fine wine safely over long distances. These specialized containers maintain consistent temperature throughout transit, protecting the wines from heat exposure, light, and vibration while at sea. From a condition standpoint, this method is among the most secure and widely trusted in the trade.
That said, the process differs meaningfully from domestic parcel shipping. Unlike UPS or FedEx, ocean freight does not operate on guaranteed delivery dates. Vessels follow planned routes that often include multiple port calls, and timing can shift due to congestion, weather, equipment availability, labor slowdowns, or delays at any point along the route. After arrival, containers must still be unloaded, drayed, and cleared before the wines can be received into our warehouse.
As a result, delivery timing is estimated rather than guaranteed. Delays can occur due to factors such as consolidation timing, container scheduling and availability, port congestion, weather, ocean transit conditions, or customs inspections.
For clients comfortable with a modest wait, Future Arrival buying is an exceptional acquisition strategy, particularly for wines intended for long-term cellaring. The combination of early access, pristine provenance, and temperature-controlled transit makes it one of the most secure ways to purchase collectible wine at origin. Pre-Arrival is best suited to collectors who are comfortable allowing wines the time required to travel properly from origin.
Tariffs, Duties & Import Costs
All applicable taxes, duties, and tariffs are assessed at the time wines enter the United States and are released from bond. These charges are the sole responsibility of the buyer and must be remitted prior to delivery or pickup.
Accordingly, listed purchase prices for Future Arrival and Pre-Arrival wines do not include any existing or future tariffs. Import costs are determined by U.S. trade policy in effect at the time of customs clearance and may change between the date of purchase and the wine’s arrival.
As of August 1, 2025, wines imported from the European Union are subject to a 15% tariff upon entry into the United States, with varying rates applied to other countries of origin. All tariff levels remain subject to government revision.
At the current tariff rate, Tribeca Wine Merchants will absorb approximately 1/2 of the applicable duty as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting clients and maintaining access to European wines during the present trade environment. The remaining approximately tariff on most wines would currently be 6.5%, due just before final pickup or delivery.
For clients seeking additional flexibility, we are pleased to offer free bonded storage upon arrival for six months, by request. Wines held in bond are not subject to tariff assessment until they are formally withdrawn from bond for delivery. Should tariffs on wine be removed while your wines remain in bonded storage, those revised rates would apply at the time of withdrawal, and tariffs may be reduced or eliminated accordingly.
Our team remains available to discuss current import conditions, bonded holding, and tariff considerations as part of the Pre-Arrival acquisition process.
Cancellation Policy
Future Arrival and Pre-Arrival purchases secure physical inventory on the client’s behalf at the time of order. These wines are sourced and committed in advance specifically to fulfill client allocations.
As a result, cancellations are generally not approved once an order is confirmed. In rare circumstances, requests may be submitted in writing for management review. Where a cancellation is approved, a 15% restocking fee may apply.
