Vinous 89
The 2005 Barolo Campè is an attractive wine that has begun to soften nicely while retaining good freshness. Even so, the 2005 remains a bit compact, which was one of my initial concerns when the wine was first released. Lavender, rose petal, new leather and spice add nuance through the expressive finish. This is one of the more primary, fruit-driven 2005 Barolos readers will come across. Stylistically, the 2005 belongs to a previous period in the estate’s history when French oak played a greater role than it does today. The 2005 should drink well for the next decade.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2025

Tasted at the Gambero Rosso showcase in London. This has a very attractive nose with leather, scorched earth, black olive and a dash of orange liqueur. Well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but fine tannins, leathery black fruits, broody and animally, leading to a more taciturn finish with touches of smoke and tobacco. Fine, but just a little joyless? Drink 2012-2017. Tasted March 2010.
Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017
