WishlistTasting Notes
Vinous 92+
Healthy dark red. Conveys a blacker fruit character than the 2014 Echézeaux. (Liger-Belair equates black fruits with "more serious.") Juicy, sharply delineated and firm, slowly giving up flavors of blackberry, licorice, mint, minerals and crushed rock. Tougher today than the Reignots but dark and precise, finishing with almost peppery energy and lift. This wine will take a minimum or five or six years to reveal its size and texture.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2033
Robert Parker 94+
Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which had been bottled in March, was already showing sophistication on the nose – great purity here with candied orange peel dallying with wild strawberry and raspberry coulis. The palate is medium-bodied with fine supple tannin. There is some new oak to be assimilated as you would expect, but like the previous vintage it is the substance and freshness on the finish that really elevates this over Louis-Michel’s first vintages. Tasted June 2015.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2050
