Tasting Notes

Vinous 97

The 2019 Canon has a fine, detailed nose of blackberry, raspberry, scorched earth and just a touch of crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, poised and focused, yet serious. This is a Canon with breeding, but it is more of a long-term prospect compared to the 2018. A second sample at the château showed a bit more depth on the saline finish, and based on that example, I think this will become an outstanding Saint-Émilion. [Neal Martin, 02/16/2022]

Anticipated maturity: 2028-2055

JancisRobinson.com 17.5

74% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc.Very dark crimson. Seductively fresh dark and dark-red fruit with cedary freshness – smells fresh even before you put the wine in your mouth. More scented as it opens. Juicy, succulent, the tannins relatively light (NB no Cabernet Sauvignon in Canon) but sufficient. A little bit of heat at the back of the throat. More approachable than the Rauzan-Ségla 2019 just tasted. (JH) [10/11/2023]

Anticipated maturity: 2027-2038
