2021 Chateau La Fleur-Petrus, Pomerol 6x750ml

The 2021 La Fleur-Pétrus was picked September 23 to October 6. The nose came as a surprise: very opulent and high-toned, too much if compared to the Hosanna or Trotanoy. In fact, re-tasting from another bottle later in the day, it comes across not unlike the Bélair-Monange. The palate follows suit in an unashamedly rich and quite ostentatious vein, delivering very good depth, with pain grillé infusing the lush red fruit. I requested a second bottle. This was quite similar, perhaps with slightly less volatility and definitely with more freshness on the palate. Difficult to judge; I look forward to re-tasting in bottle. [Neal Martin, 05/12/2022]

95% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Cask sample.The winner in the J-P Moueix stable this year, in my book. Elegant but restrained with just that bit more density on the mid palate than the other wines. Fine texture and tannins with drive on the finish. Elegance and balance combined. (JL) [04/28/2022]
