The 2023 Sancerre Rouge Belle Dame was a labour of love: in this abundant vintage, it required a month of dropping Pinot Noir bunches on the ground and then sorting in the vineyard before the final cut. Having been picked before the heat spell, this offers a lot of freshness. There’s also a lot of oak and spice, but that’s because it’s so young. The tannins are well handled, rich and almost chewy with some grip. Flint soils inform an athletic finish. [Rebecca Gibb MW, 01/09/2026]
