Cantina Gorgo (Italian for ‘gurgle’) was founded in 1975 by Alberta and Roberto Bricolo, and is currently headed up by their daughter, Roberta. Since its earliest days, it has been devoted to the production of the classic wines of this wonderful corner of the Veneto, between Verona and Lake Garda, the quintessential produce of this region. In 2014, Roberta began the process of converting her family’s 53 hectares of vineyards to organic, a project which took until 2018 to complete.
Custoza’s hills are morainic in origin, typically whitish with a light structure made up of rocky debris, stones and pebbles, humus and silt, rich in calcium carbonate with a high pH. This combination of elements that originate from morainic debris is fundamental for the style of the wines produced here: minerality and great flavor. The second factor that most characterizes the terroir of the Custoza region is the climate. The currents from Lake Garda, by influencing the temperature, create a Mediterranean microclimate not typical for a region of northern Italy.
The ancient vineyard of San Michelin interprets and represents the character and merits of Custoza wine with great elegance: fresh, fruity, flavourful and slightly aromatic. Time allows it to evolve and decisively express its full structure and mineral notes. Intense straw-yellow with bright highlights. The nose is dominated by heather paired with lime zest, sage and smokey minerality. On the palate, soft yellow citrus and stoniness complement the herbal flavors and salty finish. Evolves in the glass. Drink now or in 6-15 years.
