The word “biòca” comes from the Piemonteis language and is used to describe a decisive person often with a “tough head”, just like the winery, with all their ambitions, make their best to express the excellence of the land through the wines they make. La Biòca is a small winery in the Langhe zone. Their vineyards are situated in the villages of Monforte d’Alba (Bussia, San Sebastiano subzones), Novello (Ravera), La Morra (Castagni & Croera) and Barbaresco (Secondine, Ronchi).
Secondine vineyard overlooks the Tanaro river, and La Bioca produces its wine from a tiny 0.2ha plot. It follows on from the excellent 2014 riserva, and is partly aged in 300-litre barrels. The nose is complex, intensely perfumed, infused with smoky raspberry fruit. Rich and velvety, the palate may seem a touch soft but it has immense concentration, with ripe tannins and considerable density, power rather than finesse.
